Information about modules

I see on Redhat machines there is a file
/boot/module-info-<kernelversion> with valuable information about
modules and there relation to hardware components e.g.
------------------------------------------------
3c509
        eth
        "3Com EtherLink III"
        io "Base I/O address" "0x[0-9a-fA-F]+"
        irq "IRQ level" "[0-9]+"

3c515
        eth
        "3Com 3c515 Corkscrew"

3c59x
        eth
        "3Com 3c590/3c595/3c90x/3cx980"

82596
        eth
        "Apricot 82596"
----------------------------------------------------------

Is there something similar available for Debian?

I am writing installation notes for newbies and want to supply
information that will help them to decide on e.g. which module to select
for a specific network card.

I see the Hardare HOWTO in some cases mentions the module to be used, but
not everywhere.

Or is there another source of information I can use for this purpose?

Regards.
