strange log messages - inetd

Hi all,

Has anybody seen this message in their /var/log/syslog?

..
..
Nov 27 19:10:59 bilby inetd[31178]: /usr/sbin/tcpd: exit status 0x1
Nov 27 19:10:59 bilby nmbd[3012]: connect from 192.168.0.6
Nov 27 19:10:59 bilby inetd[31178]: /usr/sbin/tcpd: exit status 0x1
Nov 27 19:10:59 bilby nmbd[3013]: connect from 192.168.0.6
Nov 27 19:11:00 bilby inetd[31178]: /usr/sbin/tcpd: exit status 0x1
Nov 27 19:11:00 bilby inetd[31178]: netbios-ns/udp server failing looping), service terminated

The message from tcpd is repeated many times. I am using Debian Woody, and restarting samba or inetd has no effect on these messages. Samba still seems to work correctly from the remote machine, but nmbd seems to be returning an error!?

The entry in /etc/inetd.conf looks like this:
..
netbios-ns dgram udp wait root /usr/sbin/tcpd /usr/sbin/nmbd -a

Thanks,

Roger
