Look for these strings:

There is a fix by Al Viro and another by Andrea Arcangeli; they're still
discussing to find out which is better. There may be a 2.4.15-final
soon.

The problem is that after deleting inodes, they're not removed from the
directory if you don't sync before unmounting the filesystem (so there
is a chance they were synced and you didn't have problems)...
