i havent read that doc. but what i do is dump the fonts
in /usr/share/fonts/truetype (i think thats the dir)
and do /etc/init.d/xfstt restart

(i use xfstt) it re-scans the directory automatically.
though ive never added fonts. only added the initial fonts.

never used xfontsel(?)
