To colorize your prompt, export "PS1" as something with the proper
escape codes in it.  I have no idea what those escapes are, though.

I have never used joe, but it you want to try vim, the following will
give you nice syntax highlighting :

    set bg=dark
    syntax on

The 'bg=dark' is so that vim uses brighter colors to contrast with
your black screen.
