I am running vmware 3.0 (just released) with Debian 2.2r4 and the 2.4.4
kernel (thanks to Adrian Bunk's packages).

If you just bought vmware, you should be able to upgrade to 3.0 for
little or no cost. Check their web site (http://www.vmware.com).
