And what can you then do with this mounted audio CD?

Can you pull the audio tracks off in digital form just by copying files
from the CD to your hard disk (assuming that none of these new "CD
copy-protection" schemes are being used)?

If so, does this then give you a set of raw 44.1 kHz 16-bit stereo
waveform data files (presumably lacking a .wav header, or does the
filesystem create one for you when you open the file on the CD)?

Is this in any way preferable to using a CD ripper that supports digital
copying (say, cdparanoia)?
