| Applications can run in a samba shared volume just like you do it in a
| local vfat partition.

True, however some applications store absolute paths in configs (drive
letter included) or may require some support stuff on the client
system (ie registry entries or files in c:\windows\system).  For some
things it is fine, other apps suck.  You have to try it to find out
which ones are which.
