scsi-partitioning

Hello Debianists!

- cfdisk on /dev/sda works fine.

- cfdisk on /dev/sdb tells me:
FATAL ERROR: Bad signature on partition table
Press any key to exit cfdisk

how do I proceed if I want to partition sdb?

thanks for hints,
Gerald.
