Actually, I created a patch for the latest (2.4.10) kernel to fix this (it 
was a unknown card to the sb driver).

Anybody having the same problem can 
1) look at the patch in the linux-kernel archive
2) ask me for the patch
3) wait for the patch to make it in a released kernel
