I think you need a xmms plugin to do anything other than the basics (wav, mpg, etc...). Debian had a couple of plugins, mostly visulisation I think. Don't know where you can get others from, but you select them through Options->Preferences. Try http://www.xmms.org/ as I'm sure they will have loads of links.
