M1 does this I think.  It keeps the speaker on until the carrier is
detected.

You do not say what software you are using but somewhere in a file you
you should have the modem command

	ATDT<phone number>

Change this to

	ATs11=30DT<phone number>

You could also put the M1 in there too.
