Now it's time for surgery.
Go find the deb file and run dpkg -c aime-whatever-.deb

Just destroy all the files that are listed as being part of the package
and judisciously scrub the c>

I'd also make a backup of /var/lib/dpkg/status and then edit the status
field for aime to not installed since I have the feeling that the
package tools will bomb on this too.

I'd wait and see if someone else has comments since I haven't done this
before and I THINK (let me say that again - I THINK) this should work.
