You don't have to be subscribed to Debian mailing lists to mail them.
Please contact debian-x - the reason that message is there is because
it's something that should never happen, and the maintainer (who doesn't
read debian-user) wants to know about it so that he can find out why you
don't have that symlink and work around it.
