Network; UNEX Card (RealTek8139) wont work...
Hi all
Sorry to bother you all with my (apparently endless) problem...
I have a UNEX ND010 network adapter, a cheap card thats supposed to be RealTek
8139 compatible.
When I insmod it (the rtl8139 module with kernel 2.2.19) everything is fine, or
so it seems... When i start it with ifconfig it also seems fine. My routing is
set up correctly, I believe (only two computers at home on a hub, so shouldn't
be much of a problem).
When I ping, nothing happens.
So, after a lot of RTFM time with no luck, I think to myself:
OK, maybe upgrade the kernel to 2.4.5 which I have on a CD. Then I can try the
8139too module, someone on this group claimed it was much better.
insmod 8139too -> OK
ifconfig blahblah -> Segmentation fault -> Machine hangs
I've also tried the ne2k_pci, via_rhine and 8390 modules. The first two fails on
init_module, and the last yields the same result as the 8139too module.
The card seems to have the correct settings. 'more /proc/pci' lists the correct
io and irq settings. I've tried to turn the BIOS PNP OS setting on and off...
Maybe theres something obvious that I didn't think of. Please tell me if you
have any ideas.
Regards,
Tor Arvid Lund
