Help!! Dependancy Issue with dpkg install!

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1

I finally got the iso burned, the OS installed, and am in the middle
of the upgrade to the unstable version so that I can run Xfree86 4.x
when I get a series of dependancy errors that seem to all stem to
libc6 v.2.1.3-18, which I am attempting to replace with the 2.2.3-7
version. The problem comes since I get a error with some sort of
syntax using cp in the automated package scripts...

Preparing to replace libc6 2.1.3-18 (using
.../libc6_2.2.3-7_i386.deb) ...
cp: invalid option -- L
Try 'cp --help' for more information.
dpkg: error processing /var/cache/apt/archives/libc6_2.2.3-7_i386.deb
(--unpack):
subprocess pre-installation script returned error exit status 1

The help I need is to either figure out how to force this package to
somehow install (manual update of files, editing the install scripts,
flushing the install cache, whatever), back out of my update, or
somehow trick the cp program to ignore a -- L parameter...

It's either that, or wipe the system and install another distro,
which I'd rather not do...

Help!!!

Thanks in advance,
Kevin Cannon
