Yes, ssmtp is nice. If you have multiple Linux (or *ix) boxes on your
local network, you can have all but one of them run ssmtp to forward
cron job and daemon reports to you at your main mail system. The main
mail system can run a full MTA (exim, postfix, sendmail, or qmail), plus
optionally fetchmail if you prefer to go get your mail rather than have
your mail come to you (for security, or because you're on a dynamic IP,
or whatever). This puts all your mail at one location where you can
conveniently read it.
