well, I had a pci ethernet card identified on /proc/pci I think the kernel autodetects most pci hardware, yet, the corresponding drivers may not be built in the kernel. Of course we must trick this by loading a module. So, by automatically Identifying some hardware doesnt necessarily mean that the kernel is up to work with it. Al least I think.
