the Mesa-prefixes have been dropped to make it easier to port
applications to MesaGL.
I compile with, for example:
gcc -Wall -o gluttest gluttest.c -lGLU -lglut -lGL -lm -L/usr/X11R6/lib -lXi -lXext -lX11 -lXmu

you might have to install a "glut"-package as well.
