Ya I know.  I would rather it be global as I'm the only user.
Previously I had tried ~/.joerc but to no avail.

I've been using the full path from the beginning.  I have  the
permissions to a full 777 for the moment, which I know is stupid, but
changing permissions doesn't work.  I've tried 700.

Hey your lucky in my opinion;)

I've got -backpath /home/kent/.joe_bak
in /etc/joe/joerc "-backpath" is flush against the left side.
I've changed directory names, permissions and still it won't work.  I've
got two potato boxes and a progeny box that this won't work for me.  I'm
using version 2.8.  Maybe I'll try compiling my own.
