But I did check for any running programs... (Sommer with "ps ax") (sommer is Afrikaans, but I don't find nice English alternative ;) (I was not running X either.) alsa works... but not great... in Quake3 the sound in e.g. the intro sequence plays for a short while, then stops. Later, it comes back again. This looks like a more technical problem. Likely related to why OSS won't work?
