kernel compile

debs,

using the "debian way" of kernel compliation ("make
menuconfig; make-kpkg clean; make-kpkg
--revision=custom.1.0 kernel_image), i am only able to
complie a pristine kernel on my soney picturebook
(running kernel 2.4.4, currently).

on my other boxes, i cannot complie any kernels
(2.2.17, 2.2.18, 2.4.0, 2.4.2, 2.4.3, 2.4.4), as i get
the message, "...ran out of input data." (none of
these "other boxes" is a sony.)

all boxes run potato (2.2)

does anyone know what "...ran out of input data" means
in terms of kernel compliation?

should i be doing anything differently compiling the kernel?

other boxes:
dell dimension xps t600r (p600; 10gb hd);
emachine (laptop) (p400; 4gb hd).

ia, t.

bentley taylor.
