in /etc/X11/xdm/xdm-config, change the line
DisplayManager*randomFile: /dev/urandom
to
DisplayManager*randomFile: /dev/mem
your entropy won't be anywhere near as random, but xdm should start up
very fast. xdm reads about a megabyte from the random file for entropy
data, and that can take a while when reading from /dev/urandom.
