I bought a RioVolt - it's a CD player that can also handle CDR's and CDRW's
of MP3's and WMA's.  The decoders are firmware based, and the firmware is
easily upgradable.  The makers are claiming that they will be supporting
more digital formats in the near future.

I also have one of the solid state MP3 players.  I am *much* happier with
the RioVolt than the solid state player.
