OT : KVM : RE: TNT2 and Potato XF86 3.3

Well i have to disagree on both previous mails. I've heard that real of
thumb to work but ...

I've worked with a $100 switchbox that worked well and didn't degrade
picture quality, these were using cheap and far too long cabling/console
without any limitations. The ugly KVM i was talking about before costs about
$200 and some additional cabling that costed equally as much, a $400 total,
(it delivers the BEST results, haha) and it is the worst i've yet seen. The
price tag and some leftover budget convinced the teamleader these were the
ones to buy ... bad call.

I must add that i've NOT seen any fancy KVM to do better than that old thing
i've used. That old thing didn't even NEED special cables to work well and
the monitors never showed ugly images, just slightly darkened (thank the
lord for brightness and contrast) The fancy things cost a LOT of money and
fail very often, are not friendly to use and so on. Wich i could remember
where we used to buy those. We even had $2000 KVM break down on us on
several occassions, those did however deliver good picture quality.

Regards,

Joris

It helps to get really short cables (3ft or less) between the
box and the CPUs. This is one of those cases where gold contacts
seem to help as well.

Rule of thumb - it also helps if xres * yres * refresh rate is
under 50 million unless you've got a really high end switch.
