Building mutt: "could not find libsasl"

I'm trying to build a patched mutt from sources with the compressed
folders patch applied, under Debian/Sid (unstable).

Running as non-root user:

    $ fakeroot debian/rules binary

...fails with:

    checking for getaddrinfo... yes
    checking for sasl_client_init in -lsasl... no
    configure: error: could not find libsasl
    make: *** [configure-stamp] Error 1

I have the following libsasl packages installed:

    libsasl-bin
    libsasl-dev
    libsasl7

I *don't* have libsasl-modules installed.  Do I need this?

Suggestions appreciated.

 What part of "Gestalt" don't you understand? There is no K5 cabal
