you could have a look at ssmtp.  It's only job is to get mail off the
system, so you'll have to look for something else to deliver mail
(like error messages from crontab etc) locally.  Oh, and you'll have
to arrange for fetchmail handing over mail to that something else,
or have it use procmail directly.

To me, it was to much hussle.
