I have the same video card, and i use X : 1280x1024@24bits with no problem since XFree86 version 3.3.6, the server is svga, i can mail the config file for you if necessary.
p.s.: anyone know how to use this card with X v4.0.? server ?? i've installed it.. with dselect but it still uses the 3.3.6 server
