Re: 3com 3c905c question

[problems with 3C905C]

Firstly the correct kernel module for the 3c905 is generally 3c59x.

There is also a 3c90x kernel module written by 3com, but it is not
part of the standard kernel, and does not have any particular
benefits (unless you are using a really old kernel).

Finally, if you are unlucky enough to have a 3C905CX-TX-M revision of
the card (new in the past few months depending on your location)
then the 3c59x module code in kernels up to and including 2.2.18 (ie
any stable debian kernel) will need patching to work properly.

How to find out if you have a TX-M? You'll probably need to look
carefully at the writing on the card itself.

How to fix it if you have one? The required patch can be found on the
vortex mailing list archive at
 http://www.scyld.com/network/vortex.html
or you could try one of the 2.2.19pre, or recent 2.4 kernels and see
if the patch has already been applied.
