Where do you run into trouble? I've yet to encounter problems with alsa on
the 2.4.x kernels (including 2.4.2), but I track unstable. Perhaps you
should try the unstable package? The depends shown on the Debian package
page are equivalent (though I don't know if all versions reqs. are there...
only debconf shows any version dependency).
