yes it was (before an upgrade)...

this gives me :

  alci@socrate:~$ whereis man
  man: /usr/local/man /usr/share/man /usr/share/man/man1/man.1.gz
/usr/share/man/man7/man.7.gz

These are no command, only directories.
And if I try that one :

  alci@socrate:~$ which man

nothing is returned...

this is my PATH (standard one I think) :

  alci@socrate:~$ echo $PATH
  /usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/bin/X11:/usr/games


Any clue ?
