Hi, the pkgadd stuff is Solaris official, but if you're looking to manage GNU software checkout "stow" (which is also available as a .deb for your Debian box) I use it to manage /usr/local/ on every OS with a /usr/local, it's a perl script that allows orderly install and removal of software packages, but has no dependency stuff. -Jon
