Printer Setup under Potato
Greetings everyone!
After just moving to Debian a few weeks ago, (coming from SuSE) I
finally
got my Cannon BJ-6000 working, and thought that I'd pass on what I
found
so others might not have to go through my experimental stage. :-)
Anyways, it seems like to get printing to work, it's how to install
and use the packages in the following order.
1. lprng, 2. gs (ghostscript) 3. a2ps and finally 4. apsfilter.
Upon installing apsfilter, it runs a setup script and *will* look to
see if you have gs and a2ps installed, thus giving you the option
of more print drivers. If you happen to be coming from a Windows
or DOS background, as in LPT1, LPT2..., linux numbers things starting
at 0. (zero) So LPT1 = lp0, LPT2 = lp1, etc.
I also always customize my kernel, and am currently running 2.4.1
and the modutils 2.4.1. (compiled off of the original sources from
kernel.org)
I'd also like to mention that apt-get and dselect are very cool,
especially when I created the root and rescue disks, booted up
and installed via dhcp over the net. :-) (cable modem)
