the reasoning-logic behind the last sentence seems a little weird and
far-fetched to me...
If you are worried about getting infected from this list, why not use
a decent MUA that doesn't expose you to these kind of risks. Especially
under linux, there are several choices.
Generally, I guess that you'll suffer from a much higher vulnerability
when carrying on using stuff like Outlook.
