RE: XF 4.0 PROBLEMS



You probably don't want to mix release versions (In other words, if you
are going to use woody, then you should have all of your sources
pointing to woody or testing).
I had the exact same message as you, and fortunately someone was able to
help me out last month
First you want to do an apt-get install xserver-rage128 if you haven't
already.
That way, if you run xf86config, your video card will be there (I have
an Xpert 98, and it works fine).
You want to change the symbolic link for X to point to your new version
of XFree86. Something like:
ln -i -s /usr/bin/X11/XFree86 /etc/X11/X
