I'm not that failure with dos.  There is a unix editor called "ed"  You
can search for debian packages at -
http://www.debian.org/distrib/packages

apt-get install ed

and see if it is what you want.  You might want to try "joe."
You might want to check out freshmeat.net or tucows.
