No, i think your voodoo 3 was recognized as a vodoo (1?) card, to use the
DRI/DRM you shuld use the tdfx module, and to do so you need a 2.2.18 (or 2.4.0)
kernel with DRI/DRM enabled (under "character devices" menu).

You should install the libglide3 package for your voodoo 3...
