Boot stops at "aec671x_detect:"

Hello,

I recently installed kernel-image-2.2.17 and kernel-image-2.2.18pre21 
and added the required lines to my /etc/lilo.conf. When I boot however, 
the system stops with the line

aec671x_detect:

as the last line displayed. Is there any possibility (without compiling 
my own kernel) of telling the kernel to disable this driver (and 
possibly others as well)?
