compiling and running mysql

hi folks,

i compiled mysql 3.23.28 with berkeley-extension for transactions on a
scratch debian potato. when i try to run mysqld, i always get a
segmentation fault as in

/usr/local/bin/safe_mysqld: line 240: 22912 Segmentation fault $NOHUP_NICENESS $ledir/mysqld $defaults --basedir=$MY_BASEDIR_VERSION --datadir=$DATADIR --user=$user --pid-file=$pid_file --skip-locking >>$err_log 2>&1
001213 16:13:05 mysqld ended\n

Someone out there who had success for this version of mysql?
I linked libncurses.so.6 to libcurses.so for the configure-script, but i guess
that curses should not be an issue with the mysql-server.
