File a bug report against xmcd (if not done already) and wait.

I've had this problem also in conjunction with an other package. After
some time of waiting I did the following:

  dpkg --force-overwrite -i /var/cache/apt/archives/xlibs_4.0.1-9_i386.deb

BUT! Let me quote from the dpkg man page about the force-options: "These
options are mostly intended to be used by experts only. Using them
without fully understanding their effects may break your whole system."

I'm am NOT an expert, I DON'T fully understand ther effects, but nonethe
less I did it, and TILL NOW I have no problems. But thats _all_ I can say.
