the old soundblaster cd roms were proprietary and
ran off the sound card's controller. Because of
this, it doesn't show up in the bios.

the soundblaster should use the spbcd kernel
driver. 
I believe the lilo boot parameter
sbpcd=<io-address>,<interface-type>
should work. see section 4.3 Creating Device
Files and Setting Boot Time Parameters in the CD
ROM HOWTO.
