/etc/modules shouldn't have scary comments. You're
probably looking at /etc/modules.conf which is
built from all the files in /etc/modutils/ .
You can put module-loading options in a file
called, say, /etc/modutils/local and then run
update-modules to incorporate them in modules.conf.
man update-modules explains.
Here's mine, for example:
