For a PC you also want to load parport_pc.o first, with the correct
parameters for your parallel port (like: io=0x378 irq=7 dma=5).  insmod
lp.o will fail without parport_pc.o like you are seeing.  If that works,
then put the parameters in /etc/modutils/aliases and run update-modules.
Then modprobe lp should work.
