FWIW, I successfully compiled 2.4.0test10 on my woody box, using gcc 2.95.2
packaged in woody.

What problems are you getting when you try to build the kernel?

gcc 2.95.2 should be in Woody.  In fact, IIRC, it's in Potato too.
