X 4.0.1 fixed font problem

I just did a new woody install and tried installing X 4.0.1 on it. When I
run startx, X starts up but then crashes with the message:

Fatal server error:
could not open default font 'fixed'

I've installed xfonts-100dpi, xfonts-75dpi, xfonts-base, xfonts-pex, and
xfonts-scalable. Any clues what I'm missing?
