I just had the same problem. Make sure that in /etc/resolv.conf, there is 
no whitespace before anything. Like this:

domain bob.org
nameserver 206.97.64.2 
nameserver 206.97.64.9 

not like this:

domain bob.org
         nameserver 206.97.64.2 
         nameserver 206.97.64.9
