When I telnet in to the AIX systems at work, the $TERM variable gets mangled to uppercase (i.e "rxvt" becomes "RXVT"). It's not all that difficult to compensate for, but I'm curious about the cause. Any ideas? Windows based telnet clients don't seem to trigger this behavior. Just to head off the security discussion, I'm fully aware of the various security problems with telnet. Unfortunately, I don't have any control over the method of access, and that's all we've been given. I connect to the LAN using dial-up PPP, so at least I'm not going across the entire Internet... that's something, anyway. Thanx!
