I installed the slink base system, which configured the ppp conection right off the
bat with no problems.  The potato base system would hang while installing the rescue
disk though.

I don't know for sure but what I've heard is that Storm is Debian with some gui tools
for install and system admin.

Switch to Debian.  The debian-user list is really great.
