/etc/rc.boot

What's the story with /etc/rc.boot/? Is it deprecated? Is it good?
Should its files be run by /etc/inittab via /etc/rcS? The contents
of my /etc/rc.boot:

0setserial*  hdparm*  kbd*  update-modules*
