/tmp got deleted! help

Hello,
	 I made a horrible mistake today.  I accidentally deleted the /tmp directory and its contents.  I quickly realized my mistake.  I created it again (but wasn't able to replace the contents of it).  Now, I can start X as root, but I can't start X as any other user.  I can't find any errors anywhere.  I have tried replacing and deleting the user .xsession files and have tried startx, wdm, and xdm, all to no avail.  Can anyone explain to me what I blew away in the /tmp folder and how can I replace or fix it?  (I also made a new user and that user has the same problem as users that were on the box before /tmp got blown away.)
	Any help would be appreciated!!!
